Today may be Saturday but it’s no real day off. So, again, it will be a weekend of work and duty. Mostly.
Slow morning, we slept in, not enough. My lovely children slept in more than we did. I imagine, later in life, that will reverse. I can hope.
Today we have a couple things going, my friends Bob and Renee are coming at midday just to see Michael. No, I don’t know why.
I sat around drinking coffee, read the paper. Got ready for the day. The kids,3, went to a brewery before anything else. Beer in the am, yummy.
About 1130 our friends arrived. I texted tres amigos at the brewery and they seemed ready to come home. Not sure what the big draw is at any brewery to get you to go drink in the morning. Of course, they were open, so I guess this is a generational thing.
The kids got home pretty quick. Not at the brewery long enough to get drunk, thank god. Gonna be a long day of drink and food. Need to save space.
So, anyway, we just sat around eating charcuterie and drinking champagne and Caymus cab for a couple three hours. Best part of my day. It is nice to sit with friends and relax. Have a snack and some wine. It was really a great time.
My nephews engagement party starts at 4 and ends to damn late. Hope to leave early. Don’t mean that in a bad way, but it is Saturday, the kid is visiting and I’d rather be doing my own thing. Ya know what I mean?
Since this is my nephew, we volunteered to help out. Emily cooked up pork loins and made nephews favorite pork salad. When I say made salad I mean a lot. There are 100 people coming. So she made a lot.
I, on the other hand, volunteered to bring my wine barrel ice chest. Which is no small feat. It’s huge, holds 100 lbs of ice and is ever so hard to move. I got it in the back of the Fit, took three people, and headed out about 3.
I got about one mile down the road and my tire pressure light came on. So I had to stop at the gas station and spend 15 mins gassing up the tires. The air pump is damn slow. But I got going. I drove to the Johnston’s (nephew) stopped first at the liquor store for ice, got 10 bags, two at a time to the car across a large parking lot. And it’s hot out. This is real work. Ice cost $30. I’m a nice uncle.
For the barrel to the party. Other nephew Clark and his friend took over and got the barrel out of the car and manhandled it to the back yard. That’s for them. I went inside and got a glass of ice water. I am off booze since I already helped drink three bottles of wine.
So we did the party thing. Lots of people, sit and eat, talk to people who bore you that you don’t like, and a few you do like. It’s a big party.
We got out by 8 and drove home. Long day. We sat around a little at home but were all too tired for much. Went to bed soon after.
Sunday was a little better. I slept in till 8. Hurray. Emily was the one who wanted to get up. We are going out to breakfast and want to get moving. Kids gotta go to the airport by 1. So we all took showers and got ready. Took forever. We did not get out the door till after 10.
We tried a new place, new to us, downtown. This town has more breakfast joints than you can shake a stick at. And I mean breakfast only joints, not restaurants serving breakfast too. And they are all busy.
Breakfast was great. I would definitely go back. Spent too much money, that part sucked. Always amazing how the meals add up.
Came home. Emily had work in the house. I need to wash 4 cars. Awesome. Kids flight was delayed an hour so I had time to wash and dry two cars.
Marika has gone to work. Michael and Carly had to leave by 2. I quit on the cars. Then I got Michael out to the shed to go through his stores crap and I was able to get him to get rid of some of his stuff. That’s awesome. I am regaining space in the shed little by little.
Time to leave, loaded up the bags. They said their goodbyes to mom and I drove them to the airport. Neither of them is even a little talkative. So I had a relaxing one hour trip to the airport in total silence, just like the trip back up the hill. How funny.
What did we do when I got back? Went with Emily to quick quack to wash her car. I have made a small career of car washing. After we finished up, we went home. At home, I washed my last car for the day. We do have 6 cars. And, by the way, the Type R looks damn good. Damn good.
Emily was doing school work the whole time I was washing. I did finally finish and clean up. Went inside right when she was finishing up. I have perfect timing.
We have some left over slow cooked pork which we shredded and turned into pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. That’s a bun, cole slaw and bbq sauce soaked pork. Absolutely awesome. With some ice cream for dessert. We live high on the hog. U know, pork loin is on top of the hog.
After that there was bad tv. Emily went to bed. I stayed up to do this and wait for Marika. Also Marika’s friend Talyr is coming tonight. Better to be up.
Talyr showed up about 930. Just walked in. She says she has been here often enough she can just come on in. I suppose it may be true. She and I watched TV till Marika got home at 1030. I fed Marika a deconstructed pulled pork sandwich. Because she did not want the bread. So, meat and slaw.
I finished up blogging and went to bed.
