I Missed a Day Somewhere

It’s Tuesday. Again. Happens every week. The special thing is I missed posting Monday. Skipped a day. First time ever. Why am I such a lame ass? Let me tell you. Yesterday I left my phone in my office and went home. Yes, without it. I have left my phone before but only got as far as the parking lot before realizing. Yesterday, I drove 30 miles before I figured it out. Slow and stupid, I was. At least I have my looks.

So I never got the chance to say anything. Nothing pithy, nothing smart, nothing erudite, nothing confusing, nothing stupid. Just nothing. As bad as my memory is, I don’t kkow what Monday was like or I would have filled in.

Today was the usual laugh riot. It started like any smal town Tuesday. I worked out. You though I had something momentous? No. Hey, I worked out late Monday evening. And one of the real bodybuilders asked me to spot him. That’s no big. But, he was squatting 405 lbs. what the hell can I do for a guy when I spot 405 lbs? Next to nothing. If he had screwed up he would be toast. I was the only other person there, that’s why.

I could not do my usual workouts. I have hem recorded where? In my phone. But I had no phone. So generic workouts for me. I still get exercise, it just isn’t directed.

I ran home about 930. I have an 11am at a clients new brewery. Not open yet but he wanted to get together with all his dept heads and him and us accountants. Spent an hour discussing things I believe they will not follow thru on. Useful waste of an hour. Nice to get a tour of the place. Last I was there it was just an old industrial building. Now it’s an old industrial building with a brewery and restaurant in it. I saw the walk-in which you could drive a truck into. The smoker could hold ten whole hogs. Huge. It’s from Texas. Everything is bigger there.

Can’t wait till it’s all done. Smoked meats and alcohol. Who knew people would like that?

After the meeting I went to the office. In at 1230, that’s about right. Now that I am finally in the office it’s time for office work. For the next 5 and 1/2 hours. It’s hard to describe the excitement and pathos of accounting and taxes. Though tedious and boring comes close. Real close.

It is Tuesday and everyone knows I never deviate from habit so after work I go to the carniceria. Taco Tuesday is a must for my Tuesday. And Emilys. Anyway, I am having Carnitas which was very good this week. It does vary.

Dinner was nice and quiet. We shared our meals. Don’t worry, we’re related. It’s ok. So now we sit and watch TV. I don’t much like the show but it’s what is on. Emily likes it. I am really not a TV person. Right now I am a go to bed person.

Tomorrow I am cutting out of work early to go up to Tahoe. My buddy Bob has a timeshare in Incline near Diamond Peak ski area. For the week. I will be here tomorrow night. Then back down hill to home and back up for Friday and Saturday. Sounds like a great plan.

I Actually Have Something to Do

Today is another beautiful day. Sunny with a light breeze. Clear. Just a nice day.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday. Traditionally, I would do nothing. I don’t much care for football and I have never had an “annual” place to go. No parties I always attend. Nothing. Which I prefer. Emily and I will sometimes watch part of the game. I saw the last quarter of the Pats Seahawks game. Love the look on Richard Sherman’s face. Saw the Pats Falcon game, turned it on at 28-0 and watched the rest. Funny. But, since the 49ers won their 5th, I just have not bothered.

This year all changed. My old college chums have an annual get together in San Jose for the big game. I got an invite. On Thursday. So I politely declined. Too far to go and invite left no time for planning. Then my friend Bob as a last minute thing decided we should get together for the game for hard liquor and protein. He and his fiancée are coming to our house. Even though I prefer to avoid parties, at lease it’s at my house and I like the people that are coming. So, for the first time in, like, forever, I am attending a Super Bowl party. Crazy.

Well, I did get my paper today and it was a let down. Some good features in the sports page though, which talked about Niner teams of old. That’s fun, an era when I cared. But the balance of the paper was pointless. Can line the ash can with it.

So spent the early part of the day cleaning and neatening the house. I also had to work in the water pump. We have had shit water pressure since the “off brand” pump company came out to inspect our pump on Friday. Part of sale process. I went out and reset the whole house filter. Also changed the pre filter as well. I noted from the energy I had to expend that the inspectors took apart the pre filter. It took all my strength and an act of god to take the filter apart. Some asshole with big gorilla arms took it apart. And put it back together. What a dumbass. I managed with proper bracing to loosen the parts and get the job done. We now have proper water pressure. I am a GD genius.

After this part of the morning, a debacle followed by success, I went for a shower. Then it was just wait for the guests. A nice damn day. I got the downstairs set up, put out a few dishes. Really not much.

Emily got home from school and wanted to wash her car. So we spent an hour washing and vacuuming the car. It does look fantastic. I am sure she is glad I helped her.

Our guests, Bob and Renee arrived a little later. They brought food and wine. Nice choice. We started with cocktails and Emily had made guacamole. Had shrimp cocktail. Nice snacks and such.

By the time we had finished our first drink the game was on. Game did turn out to be close but I really wasn’t watching. I was more interested in my squares and numbers. We had put money on a grid system and I was rooting for my numbers. And I did win 40$. So yay for me. Who won the game? Me, that’s who. I really did not care who wins the game.

I BBQd lamb loin chops and filets. And they were insanely good. I had done a dry marinade of spices in the filets and vacuum sealed them last night. Same for lamb chops but that was a wet marinade. Both turned out very well. Bob and Renee thought I used special meat but I told them Costco for the meat and treated to make it special. Simple.

Marika came home halfway through the game. She enjoyed all the same food and drink. We had a very nice day.

Bob and Renee left awhile after the game. We are going to be joining them In Thor this week. They have a time share in south shore. I will be skiing. I don’t know what Emily will be doing. She is not a skier. We will see.

It’s 1030 and I am ready for bed. I will water the dogs and head for the hills

Where the Hell is my Paper! Oh

It’s a beautiful morning. The sun is shining and I bet it’s close to 70. And it’s February. Wtf? The birds are making a racket outside while I search for my newspaper. Which I did not find. I hate that.

Got on the phone with the newspaper folks. That took some work, they keep the number well hidden. But, I did speak to a person and she was calling for a redelivery. Cool.

Emily came downstairs while I was on the phone. And headed out the door to yoga while I was still on the phone. But, I concluded the call. Right then, Emily yells from outside, she found the paper. Was in a strange place but it was there. Oops. Hope I catch the guy on the rebound so I can say sorry.

I just finished reading said paper. Not much of interest. Thinnest paper of the week. And I was worried when I did not get one. I gotta relax. Well, coffee is gone and breakfast is digesting. I could just sit here and daydream which is a pleasant way to waste time. Or I could take a shower and get dressed. Maybe that.

Tomorrow is Super Bowl and we have no plans. Except my buddy Bob said just now let’s do something. So maybe we have plans. I am most of the way there. Ok, now I have plans. Bob and Renee are coming over sometime midday with food. We will drink strong beverages and eat protein rich snacks while watching the game. It will be the first game I have watched all year.

I left for work after talking to Bob. Emiky has already left to meet up with her sister Dee. They are getting pedicures. I guess women have to do that in pairs. I am not well versed in that area.

I managed to clean up my desk and finish a couple tax returns in the four hours I was in the office. I also fielded several calls and a lot of emails. It was thrilling. When Emily finally got done, she called and said we should meet at Costco to shop for tomorrow. So right now I am sitting in the Costco parking lot in my car. Waiting on the bride. It is damn busy here. I parked way far out. Will need a shuttle I think. I just hope she gets here soon. I am playing on my phone and I hmgot a weird look from a passerby. When you think about it, all he could see is me staring at my lap with my hands out of sight. People have dirty minds. I am gonna go loiter by the front door.

I waited by the front door for Emily. This Costco is hella busy. The food court is out front here, not inside. There are about 50 people in line and all the tables are full. Like I said, busy. But lots to watch. Emily did show up. First thing she says is boy is this Costco busy. I know that.

We grabbed a cart and were off. We are here for three things. But, this is Costco so it will end up being 12 and $150. This ain’t my first rodeo.

Problem with this Costco is, it’s not mine. Or not my regular one. So we found it laid out weirdly, and impossible to find anything. And busy as hell, if I have not mentioned it. Well we found the meat we came for but not the chips or dip. What else? Almonds, crackers, cookies, ibuprofen, cheese and crackers, cheese plate, etc, none of it planned. $162. I hate Costco.

We went home. The food line out front had 75 people in it. The food is not that good or that cheap. I would pay more for no line and better food. But some people just love this place too much. I managed to get out front of Emily and beat her home.

Once home Emily went out to the glass house to fire some glass. I put away my Costco groceries. And started to make dinner. I also put the lamb chops and filets in separate marinades for tomorrow’s game snacking. Emily came in and asked for a cocktail. I offered her some of the new whisky but she wanted a mixed drink. So on comes the whisky sour. I had a sip of new whisky.

We finished making dinner. Salad with the leftover tri tip on it. Quite delicious. We slammed down dinner fast and now are watching bad TV. Something we do far too often. Like every night.

My Day Off

It’s 1050 pm Friday night. I Yelped a restaurant review instead of bogging. Sorry. Go read the review of Fortress on Yelp. It’s in Vacaville CA.

This is it for today. Good night.

Early Work

It’s the usual day.
Ahhh, my breakfast. Pancakes as always. On the spatula, no sugar free syrup. Yumm!

My first work call/text started at 645. Too GD early but some associates are only available early. First incoming text 244am. Why be up then except to pee? It is obviously an early work day. I am trying to get all this crapola out of the way so I can have a nice workout prior to going to work. KnowwhatImean? I think you do.

I am trying to get this deal done with a client that makes his $30M cash flow 99% income tax free. We are at the very end of the process that started damn near two years ago. All involved are nervous because these things can be delicate and fall apart at any point. But all work is done and we just need to close financing. Which I hope we can. Because we all get paid. I like getting paid. I have a house to build, too. Those ain’t free.

Today I have to go to a new bank as well. Hopefully they will not treat me like a criminal or terrorist and let me open a checking account. My personal bank of 25 years would not. Amazing.

Workout was fine. Upper body. Had to share a machine today. 40 machines, 3 people in the gym and I need to share. Something is clearly crazy.

I did remember something today. Pictures.

The picture of vigorous good health. Am I right?

Time for a shower.

Bad news. I never finished this post. So I am going to end it now.

Everyone Hates IRS

Title is a new sitcom. I don’t think anyone will watch.

I had three ginger snaps for breakfast, the ones I made for dessert the last time Marika visited. That was Sunday I think. They are really good and make a fine and substantial breakfast. I recommend them.
That is my cookie jar, shaped like a teardrop trailer. Very cool. That would have been cookie number four but I have some restraint. Not much.

A good breakfast is how you start a great day. I have an incoming call at 8am fronthe IRS. The auditor, whom I have never met, has an attitude. A few auditors have an “I’m from the IRS and I can do anything I want” attitude. Over the last 25 years I have seen a few. This gal is one. Judy Lee from the Bellevue, WA office. First time I spoke to her she had an attitude. So I know that’s not me. She is the same way with the client, whom she has also spoken to. I don’t like her, she is not very good at her job and I’m sure loses a lot of audits. When you have an attitude the accountants and lawyers double down and want to kick your ass. I do. One more thing, my client has a deadline of 1/31 to deliver paperwork. On 1/20 her 24 year old nephew died. The auditor, Judy Lee, would not grant an extension. She said,”she had time and she should have done it earlier”. What a heartless bitch.

Btw I was on the third floor where the computer is. And I noted while I was sitting there that my dog Jaxon had pooped all over. I hate that dog.

Well, on that sunny note I got ready for my day. I took the IRS call while in my robe. Good enough for them. Too good. Went to shower and shave. It’s a good part of the day. I took my time.

Went downstairs. On my way out the door I see Latte left me her gift. I hate that dog.
One pees and one poops. Inappropriately. I hate dogs.

I did manage to get to work. Finally. I did have a really great email from First Northern in my inbox when I arrived. They decided to not open my entity accounts. The four LLC and one Corp account. These assholes were so nice as to allow me to keep all the accounts I have had the last 20 years. God I hate banks. Now I have to find another bank to go to. I have a couple possibilities for tomorrow. I hope they work.

While sitting at my desk, hating all banks and bankers, I still managed to get work done. I know it sounds like a broken record, but it was emails, calls, letters to the damn IRS, a client visit, visit by a friend. The usual. Got to love work. I don’t. Not much else to the day. Normal crap.

Went home at about 6. Quick drive without any problems. As it should be. We managed to throw together a dinner. Chopped salad with sautéed chicken. And a couple leftover ribs. Very good considering it’s unplanned nature.

We are watching TV. Good TV. For a change. Bedtime is twenty minutes away. And I am ready.
