Clear Day

I woke early this morning. Near 545. Too early to get out of bed, the heater is not on yet, but too late for me to really get back to sleep. The alarm is a 630 thing. Everyday. So I lay unsettled for the next three quarters of an hour. I listened to the sounds of the bedroom. Emily snoring, lightly. Pepto the cat snoring loud and insistently. Sleeping atop Emily. Never on me, I knock her to the floor. Smart cat. While lying there my brain worked overtime as it likes to do. It has a mind of its own. The heater kicks on about 615, just in time to melt the ice in the toilet before I get up. And, by the way, I am the get up first and turn off the alarm person.

For once, I laid there and listened to the clock radio. Usually, always actually, I like dead silence in the morning. Today I listened to Michael Jackson tell me We Can Ride the Boogie. I don’t believe him. Got up and turned it off at the end of the song.

Headed to the can, grabbed my workout gear, got dressed in the bathroom and put my bathrobe back on over the clothes. It’s still cold. Brushed teeth, took meds with a reminder from Em, and head d downstairs with the cats. I always shut the bedroom door on the way, the dogs need to go out immediately and will head upstairs if door is open. And pee. Too excited. So, opened downstairs kennel and out go the dogs. Off to backdoor cat kennel and feed cats. Prince, other cat, decided to skip breakfast. I am sure Pepto will eat hers. Dogs came in, I made there breakfast and dishes out their mess. Old dogs get meds. Same for old? people. They head upstairs after breakfast every day to sit outside the bedroom door to whine and scratch the door. Lovely.

I made coffee for two. Americanos. I have some heavy cream leftover from a recipe so that went in the coffee. No waste. Made Emily her oatmeal with blueberries and lite syrup. Took that up, let the dogs in to the bedroom. Put brekkies on the counter. Ahh, tasks done. No lunch this week. I made my lite pancakes and sat down to enjoy coffee and pancakes. Which I am.

It’s quiet outside the sun is blazing and it’s cold as hell. Wind is blowing at a good clips which is not helping the temp. I hear we have more storms moving in later in the week with winter temps and real snow in the mountains. March is heare and so is winter. Finally. Where the hell has winter been, long time asking?

Today I am meeting a new workout coach. She has emailed me several times just to be sure I am going to be there, what am I working on, letting me know she is ready. Seems like a nice woman. I like female coaches, they don’t ever compete with you. It’s difficult enough to compete with myself.

I have a couple hours before that. I may try to do some work online while waiting. Tax returns are easy online especially business returns. All the financial statements are on my server as well as the tax input. So I usually don’t need physical files. I wish I could sit at home every day just doing taxes. No calls or visitors. That would be bonus. And a dream because people like the touch which makes them feel better. So I give it to them.

I have been wondering what workout my coach has in mind for today. She may try to kill me or just beat me down. I don’t know. Maybe her veneer of kindness and respect is just that. And in actuality she could be a sadist. Probably not.

I managed to log on successfully and finish one tax return before I left. I went to the tire shop first to get my flat from yesterday fixed. The moron who broke my pressure sensor also fixed the flat today. I hate that kid. I left the car at the shop, borrowed the owners Chevy and went to the gym.

I had to waste a little time when I got there. I rode the elliptical until she was ready for my workout.

She had actually written down, on paper, an upper body workout. It seems strange a 26 year old would use a pen and paper. I have her a little bit of shit for it too. She says she is the oldest 26 year old I will ever meet. She is ok.

The workout will be insane when I finally do the whole thing, all reps and sets. Today I just tried it to see how I did. I felt lame for the most part. She continually corrected my form and tried to guide me. I am somewhat incorrigible and difficult to coach but I am getting there.

I went back to the tire shop and picked up the car. The flat had a large aluminum pin inside the tire. It pushed its way through the tire. Which is crazy.

Home to shower and clean clothes and off to work. No flat tires either. I got a call from the office on my way to the office. My 4 o’clock showed up a little early, one o’clock. Are you kidding? He went to eat to kill time while waiting for me. Three hours early. Crazy man.

I managed to get there and get settled before he came back. I finished his taxes and sent him on his way. I hope to see him next year but he just had open heart surgery and did not look to good.

My next appointment was an hour later. He is probably my longest running client. I met him in 1993. He is a mover and he moved my family three times and my office twice. When he arrived I told him I was moving again and needed his help. He announced he was shutting his business and moving out of state. This is really a sad day. He is a friend and a client and I really will miss him. He will be in Ohio, near Cincinnati. Things like this don’t happen often. It’s just very sad.

During my day I traded texts with Becky, my future landlord. We finally made an appointment to see our new house. The only time we could all get there was at 630. So I ended up leaving early, at 530. Turns out the traffic was horrible and I was still late to arrive. Emily got there about a minute before me.

The house is small, but it’s nice and clean. Garage is big enough for two cars and our tear drop trailer too. We are going to use one room as storage, or so Emily says. But then we won’t have room for the kids when they visit. I don’t know. I want to set up my office, move all out crap and settle in. Not much else. I am ready to move out of here. I really won’t miss all the work and maintenance. This house became more than I wanted over the last couple years. And, btw, the new lawn is tiny.

We went out to dinner after our visit. Italian. I had meatballs, salad and a glass of red wine. I felt pretty good. Emily had a pizza to herself. And a salad. Lots of leftovers for her lunch.

Home and sat around. A little. It’s late. I had to put out the garbage too. It’s Tuesday. I hope the carniceria did not call me in as a missing person. I am sure I was missed. Well, bedtime.
