Slow Friday

Btw, in case anyone is interested, the Dodgers still suck today. As Clayton Kershaw said, “maybe one day I won’t fail”. Give him a thumbs up for honesty. And down for performance. He just can’t handle the post season. We can’t all be Madison Bumgarner. And he definitely is not.

Just finished the Friday newspaper. Today’s paper was a 10 minute read. Just nothing there worth a crap. Friday is one third of my weekly allotment and I can’t handle a total waste of time. Pray for Saturday, worst paper of the week. Maybe I’ll get lucky.

It’s 842 and I gotta get moving toward the door. I have two meetings today, one at 10 and one at 11. And then lunch too. Lunch is a complete waste of time. I’d rather sit at my desk doing nothing than go to lunch with clients.

Time for shower. Can’t wait longer. I will abandon Cissie who is here for coffee and reading a lousy paper. I have to be out in 20.

I did manage to get to work by 1020. Not bad considering I got in at 1130 yesterday. I needed to meet with Walker to go over several administrative issues. Also some question on billings as well.

At 11 my client Malik came in. His company is a government contractor and just pulled down a $3M contract with the US Navy. He has a “general” to run the contract using his company as a shell. Makes him a good profit with little work or worry. The general does all the work and takes on all the risk. Seems like a winning combo.

I met with Malik and the CFO for the general. They just wanted to go over what they were doing and what my part was. Whatever happens, it will work out for me.

As usual, Malik wanted to go to lunch after. There is a Pakistani place about a mile from my office. Malik appears to know everyone there and gets special treatment from the staff. He invited another client of his to join us. He owns three hotels in Sacramento and is building another one. Nice guy as anyone in hospitality is.

After lunch I had the usual work. I had a couple errands to run so I prepared payroll before I left. I went to the bank for the weekly deposit. While talking to Nina at the bank, whom I have known for years, I found out she is from Siberia. That seems so crazy. I have never met anyone from Siberia before. Seems so exotic.

I went by Grebitus Jewelers after my banking. I had to take Michaels watch in for repairs. He wears a Rolex and Grebitus is an authorized repair site. The watch was a gift from his Grandpa. Grandpa wore it for 35 years then decided to give it to his grandson Michael. The watch band broke and it needs a good cleaning. And it’s very expensive to repair so the kid sent it to dad to get it fixed. Saves him money.

I am acquainted with the fine watch salesman at Grebitus. He is a very good friend of my employee Walker. So while at Grebitus I had him show me all the new styles and share all the prices. Jesus Christ I forget how expensive nice watches can be. Especially the ones with lots of diamonds. But, they are beautiful timepieces. And Rolex watches can really hold their value and quite often increase in value. I bought mine 30 years ago and it’s worth 12 times what I paid for it. Amazing. Sadly, I can’t afford a $38K watch for my lovely bride for Christmas.

Back at the office by about 430. I finished some work. We have been plagued by a lack of toner for the printer/fax/scanner since Thursday. May sound insignificant but it grinds us to a halt when we can not print anything. So we can only get so much work done. I got a few more things done and headed out around 530.

Trip home was truly boring. But, it was also very light traffic for a Friday. That’s great for me. No trouble, no slow downs, nothing. Boring. I got to within 200 yards of home, about 635, when I realized I was supposed to stop and pick up beans and chips at the carniceria. So I turned around and headed into town to get them. Emily had called me, one of the parents in her class had brought in home made Chile relleno for us. Which does require a side of beans.

Managed to get all the way home at 655. Emily was still at yoga. I fed the dogs Got the food all set. And waited. Emily got home at 715. Cissie came over as well. We are our Mexican food and relaxed.

Cissie had come over to watch a Hallmark movie with us. She bought us a dvd last Christmas and we never got around to watching it. Tonight’s the night. Not. I put in the DVD but got no picture or sound. I beat on it for 10 minutes to no avail. So, I called Best Buy support. They sold me the system. I went through their phone tree and finally got a live person. That person decided to transfer me to a recording that said they were closed. Fuck them.

We decided to watch TV. Guess what? No signal. I call DirecTV support. Took five minutes and got some dumb ass in the Philippines. Mind you, it is lightly raining outside. No wind. This stupid cow at tech support says when it stops raining the tv will work. I told her she does not know that. She reiterated its the rain. I told her last week it was blowing 60mph and I watched tv. She said again it’s the rain. What a dumb bitch. I said a few choice words about her intelligence and ability, no swearing, and hung up. I hate all phone support.

So now no video entertainment. No big. I can go read a book. Why do I pay idiots for things and get nothing in return? Why?

Either way, it’s bedtime. I am gonna shutdown and sleep. I hope my kindle works. I don’t think I could handle more tech support today.
