America had the day off today for my birthday. You’re welcome, America.
Ok. Should have had the day off. Still welcome.
For a change, this morning I did not go workout. Not because it’s my birthday. I wanted an earlier start on our drive to Dixon where my mechanic is at. Marika’s car needs a new clutch. And probably a starter as well which I noticed at Starbucks on our way to Dixon. The starter is not engaging the flywheel. Her car is gonna be pricey.
As I said, we got off early to Dixon with a stop for gas and coffee. Took over an hour to get there. Marika, driving her car, disappeared from view and I did not catch her for an hour. I guess she is in a hurry?
We stopped at our favorite bakery, Solano Baking Co, in Dixon. Got a donut each. Hey, it’s my birthday! And then proceeded to Dennis’s house with our broken car. Dennis is a retired mechanic, duh, who now does repairs on the side (if possible in retirement) and does not charge an arm and a leg. So I like him fixing my car. Especially something so pricey as a new clutch. We got to his house on time but he wasn’t there. We parked the car in his driveway, stashed the keys, called and texted him a few times, and left for the office.
Marika is driving me to work and taking my car home. Emily is going to detour through Sacramento on her way home to get me. Lots of planning.
Today I did a few more tax returns. Surprise. I did have an appointment with new clients and did their taxes. Again, duh.
Office celebrated my day as usual. We had a rhubarb pie for lunch. Yay! And I got a card. A special day as always. And there were nice things in the cars for a change. At least that’s what Cara said. I guess it’s a nice change.
Emily got to the office after my last client left. I met her in the parking lot and we headed up to Auburn. She had taco Tuesday in the car for my dinner. So nice, once every 7 years.
Nice ride up the hill though I did get a bit carsick. I was on the phone and reading too. And Emily drives wildly. I sure hope she reads this.
Got home and unloaded. Managed to get settled inside which took a bit. We got all the food heated and on the table and chowed. Sat for awhile and rested, digesting. After a bit we opened presents!! I did. It was very nice. Had a couple cards too. I did get some Sox and a couple Tommy shirts. All very perfect and beautiful. Like me. Emily also got a really cool home cold brew pot so I don’t have to work as hard as I have been with my homemade cold brew. The new pot is far easier than my two container method. I already have a pot “brewing” in the fridge.
And, great news, I get my usual ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Choc mint ice cream with choc fudge and mint mini ice cream balls on it. 59 balls, actually. Sort of cool. We ripped that cake a new one and devoured our share of the cake. Just an awesome birthday. My family loves me. Friends and fam who were not here managed to call during the day to extend greetings. Makes me feel good knowing people take the time.
I am very full now. And sitting with the kid. She is playing on her phone while I sit and blog. Emily has gone to bed. I am going soon. It’s almost 9 and I can do some reading.
