Mean Saturday.

Day one of three. Nice slept late, till eight. Emily is going to yoga this morning so I got up with her to make breakfast and coffee. It’s a thing.

She dressed and got her shit together and we went to the car. Ok, pay attention. I got in the car to ride down for the paper. Emily went running up the back stairs because she forgot something. I hear a scream, look around, and she is splayed on the stairs. I ran over, she had tripped going up the stone steps and landed first on her knee on the sharp edge of the second slate step. Sliced open her knee to the cap, then fell forward and landed on her cheek. Abrasion slight, lots of little gravel stuck to her face. Definitely hurt. I ran to get ice packs, Emily did not want to get up. When I came back with ice, she was hobbling toward the house.

Well, what fun. I put her on the couch, raised the head and feet, iced both down. Calmed her down. Inspected the wound. Cleaned the knee with hydrogen peroxide. And left her to there for quite a while to convalesce. See, it can be exciting around here.

Emily did not go to yoga.

Now that I got her set I went about the regular morning. Made coffee, she still wants that. I had pancakes. And coffee. Today I’m trying my hand at cold brew, btw. Read the paper. Took a shower. Got ready for whatever we decide to do. Marika got up during this whole thing so I got to explain all that Emily could not. What fun!

This whole time, Emily stayed put on the couch. Just as I told her. She must really feel bad. She feels a little foolish too but I don’t see a reason for that. It’s called an accident for a reason. Around mid day Emily got up, took a shower, got dressed, and laid back down on the couch. Prob a good choice. All the movement did make her a little dizzy. More than usual.

We sat and watched god awful Saturday tv for another hour. Yikes. Then, she said she was ready for errands. To the car. I am driving. I’m not dizzy.

Lots of places to go. Tried to find a place to get a windshield repair. No luck. One place was gone and all others closed. Seems to me Saturday would be a busy day for auto repair and maybe someone would be open. No. Off that task.

Next up hardware store for things we can do without. Then to Big 5. We need a mattress, inflatable, for guests, since we lack an extra bedroom. Big 5 sells many and all are on sale this weekend. U can see why we went.

Next up a Target run. Mostly just for female personal hygiene products but since we are here, a few more things we could do without. It amazes.

Emily is moving slow through all of this. But she has not collapsed yet.

Next up groceries and a stop at the auto store for wax n dry. Grocery was all veg for salad and such for the weekend.

Finally home. Unpacked. Drive the car down to the garage. Because it’s down the hill. Duh. We are supposed to work on the shed today, clean out, etc. And Emily says she is game. Hold for an update.

Ok. So I put crap away from the trip to town. Made a quick? trip to the can. It happens. Cleaned up a little. Emily sat around. She has a decent excuse.

I went out to start the shed deconstruction, inside out. Got five or six boxes out and began. Goodwill pile. Throw away pile. Take to house pile. I found our missing kitchen implements. Finally. On our trip to town today we bought a strainer. It was in the shed. That’s going back.

Emily came out and we went through a few more shed boxes. Threw away more. Saved some. Tossed the rest. We spent about an hour out there. We got a very late start, after 5. Emily claims we can finish tomorrow. Very bold talk for a one legged school teacher.

Into the house. We are gonna bbq. Sausage. Side of spicy green beans. Salad. Good stuff. And, Emily has thrown enough subtle hints that I made her an Old Fashioned before all the dinner stuff.

We had a very pleasant dinner except I got called out cuz she thinks I shovel salad in instead of forking it. And? So what. Works for me.

Marika came in late in the evening and had the same meal. Sans cocktail. She did get some of the red wine I opened. Ok, too fruity Cabernet. I like tannic more.

Day is done. It’s late. Bedtime. Emily says she is going to yoga in the morning. I am willing to bet that will not happen. I’ve met this woman.
