Mommy’s Day

I would like to give a shout out to Dave Yancey whom I met yesterday in Old Town. When we were running around up there yesterday, I saw a mid thirties car parked across the street and crossed the street to take a look. While looking at it, owner Dave showed up. And had to tell me all about it.

So it turns out, car is a 1935 Auburn Coupe. Only 4 left of the 1900 or so made. The car top is made of wood, that’s crazy. This car won the Pebble Beach Concourse in 1983. No longer in concourse shape, Dave drives her everyday. Owned the car 7 years and put 20k miles on it so far.

He is driving it all over the country next year starting in Auburn, CA and driving through the other 35 Auburn’s in the US. Ending in Auburn, IN. They will be in Auburn, Maine in 14 months and I hope my in-laws can make it. I think he has created an adventure.

This is a last hurrah for Dave, he is only a few years younger than his car. I think it’s a very cool way to spend 18 months.

Ok, so that all occurred yesterday. And I do have a today as well. Which happens to be Mother’s Day.

This morning I made breakfast for Emily. Corned beef hash with eggs and jalapeño bacon. Very good stuff though the bacon was a little salty. And a high protein breakfast too which is so good for you. I guess.

I did get Emily a gift. I know it may sound crazy but I have her a leaf blower. I have been told many times to not ever buy tools or appliances for your wife. Well, that’s wrong. My wife likes gifts like that. She had been discussing a leaf blower for a few weeks and I did not want to buy one. One more thing to maintain and repair. No thank you. Then I thought, why not a cordless battery operated one? Yes, it’s brilliant. Turned out to be cheap as well. No maintenance. Works like a charm. So there you go – Mother’s Day.

Our missing child did text me and ask me to buy her mom flowers and a card. And sign it for her. Just like your kid, hey dad do all the work so I don’t look like an ungrateful child. Please. So I did. Of course Emily knew. And it wasn’t flowers, it was a bejeweled license plate frame. Much better.

So, Mother’s Day over. Except for the phone calls. We went out for a couple hours to run errands. I can not remember anything except the grocers, picked of dinner. Lamb loin chops, etc. Errands always seem important but are never memorable.

We got home and did a little work around the house. Finished cleaning other bedroom for our guest arriving tonight. Misc chores. Nothing that thrills. Watched some bad Sunday TV and sat around.

Eventually it became late enough to fix dinner. I bbq’d the lamb chops, Emily broiled a veg combo of asparagus, mushrooms and tomatoes. Garlic and a little cheese on top. That was a hit. Spuds on the side. I am not a huge fan of potatoes. I opened a bottle of wine too. Funny aside, Emily had tried to give this bottle to the garbage man on a huge waste day. Turns out this bottle, a gift, was an extra special bottle. I caught it, as did the giver that reminded her how special it was. She had actually set it out for our garbage man. Close call. We drank it. And it was quite nice.

Randy, our guest showed up about 830. We saved him a plate. No starving here. He had been driving most of day. Tired like us. We caught up on the shizzle for a few minutes and then he went to bed. Emily and I did same. It’s late now.
