FORGOT TO POST THIS LAST WEEK. OOPS
It’s happening again. Its Thursday, and tonight at 7 we fly out to LA. Michael, prodigal son, is graduating from graduate school. Not something that happens everyday, but it is happening this weekend. Ceremony Friday evening, big party on Saturday and fly back Sunday. As I just mentioned in last installment, celebrations end. But, now, this morning, I am packing for the trip. Emily went to work. I am going to work in a few. Then run home and do the travel thing.
I had several errands to run first. Most people important a trip to the salon. I have to be beautiful. Also to bank to get some software to auto track credit card usage. My card has a hell of an issue with the bank. The bank likes to reject my transactions as fraudulent when they aren’t. And I hate them for it. Now, o have to watch the transactions myself and call them if there is a problem. Prob work way better.
I went to work at about noon. I know you would think “why bother” esp considering I have to leave by 230. Well, tomorrow is payday so the employees want me to come in and pay them. Losers. I think it’s selfish. I did a few other minor tasks while there and left at 230. Traffic very light and got to Dixon quickly. Dixon, wait I don’t live there. But my mechanic has my truck and he called me, while I was on the way and said come get the truck and bring the wife’s car in for the brake job we need. So I headed to Dixon and swapped the cars. The truck is really running well. Almost a shame I am selling it. Not.
So off to home. Vacaville. I do live there. Realized when I drove home, in the truck, I don’t have a key or the garage door clicker. Emily has my car and hers is in shop. So I tried all doors out front. No. Went to back, the door on patio was wide open. Turns out, Emily got home before me. I never thought to knock.
So we spent 30 mins finishing up Emilys packing and a little of mine. Had to find all the little items I forgot, Rx, chargers, a jacket. Usual. We got out and headed to the airport. Easy drive, a little longer than usual since we moved. But we made fine time and arrived a little more than an hour before takeoff. Parking was really full but I found a spot. From there it was really greased lighting. We ended up at the gay withh 45 minutes to spare. Why did we hurry?
I was hungry so I got some snacks. Just a little. Only $21. I love airport pricing. That was a while ago. Now we are sitting and waiting. Fun. Our plane just got to the gate. But, they must deplane and clean the aircraft. Right. I have flown before. The planes are dirty.
That’s us enjoying the airport ambience. Does it get any better? Please god, make it better.
Almost time to enplane. Is that the term? If getting off is deplaning I think we will enplane. Soon.
Did I forget the best part of the trip? The gate agent upgraded us! To first class! NO. We got exit row seating for free. Which is no small thing, the extra leg room is awesome. I haven’t been that comfortable on an airplane in several years. Shout out to Eleanor at Jet Blue!! You are a saint. The flight was uneventful, boring and quick. Just what I prefer.
Michael is picking us up upon arrival. We landed in Long Beach, cheapest airport. But, I did get to use the stairs to the tarmac. Not common in the modern age. LB airport is long in the tooth and ultra unmodern. We got our bags fast, my bag being first onto the carousel. Emilys quickly thereafter. And out to the curb, where it is a complete madhouse with several lanes of cars fighting to the curb where they are not allowed to stop for passengers but do it anyway. Such a business. The airport will one day get “improved” I am sure. To better serve us. Right.
Michael was in his usual jolly mood. Some things just never, or won’t, change. He was upset having to come “all the way” to Long Beach to us up. Suck it up loser. It was still a nice ride.
We drove over to my sisters house in Huntington Beach. My Bro in law Vince had made dinner for us, Udon noodles with curry. Very nice. Doriene was still out of town on Thursday night. She gets back Friday.
So we hung out there with Michael, Marika (arrived Wednesday), Gabriella (cousin Pancho’s eldest) and Marikas friend Taryn up from San Diego. And, our granddoggie Kona was there. She was really glad to see us. We had a nice late evening chat and dinner.
About 1030 Michael drove us to Irvine to my cousin Gerardo’s house. Michael is living here and we are staying in the third bedroom.
We went to bed almost immediately upon arrival. Long day.
Gerardo, and his husband Chris, are out of town till Saturday.
