I want holiday season Mondays to be awesome. It’s close to Christmas so Monday’s in December should be up to the job. Today is not.
Today I had an auditor coming to visit. Longtime client got flagged for an audit. Sucks. They have the potential to get hammered. After collecting all their backup for expenses I think they are going to lose a lot of tax dollars., probably in excess of $20k. Plus whatever the state of CA assesses. Won’t be pretty. And could go far higher.
I had to drive first to the clients office to pick up all receipts and backup for the audit. My appt with the IRS is at 9am. So, being at the clients at 830 cuts it close. So I got the paperwork and took off to the IRS office which is close by. Sadly, turns out, the auditor was at my office for the meeting. Oops. My bad.
So jumped back into the car and raced to..Starbucks. I need coffee. Then off to my office. Auditor was very nice and young (is 41 young?). We got along well. We went through the usual audit crap. Back and forth. I talk a lot during audits and this was no exception. She got a call from her daughters school at this point. Kid had hit her head. She says call me in 15 mins to the school. So we kept working. 15 mins later call comes in and she has to leave. She wrote up a receipt for the documents and took them with her and headed to school. We will hear later.
The balance of the day was the usual. Paperwork, banks recs, a couple tax returns. The usual crap. Not notable, as you can see.
Tonight was special. Our friend Reneewas celebrating her 60th today. Renee is the same Renee we just went to Hawaii with. And they wanted to go to one of their favorite places, one I had introduced them too, across the street from my office for dinner. Yay. Dinner and I don’t have to go far. Win.
Emily drove in from work. She even arrived first. I got their next the Bob and Renee. They brought a magnum of one of our all time favorite wines. A 2009 Stephanie Zinfandel. I had forgotten, but we had given them this same bottle a few years back and they have been holding it. It’s best years are 10 to 20 so it’s about right.
Dinner was excellent. The managing partner of the place came by to say hi. Renee rents her house in Roseville to him. I had introduced them to this place, partner Charlie met Renee and rented her house. As Charlie said, I put a lot in motion bringing Bob there. Funny how things happen.
We left by about 830. It’s a school night so gotta go to bed. Drive uneventful. Home, did a few chores and off to bed.
