Veterans Day

OK, time to gripe again about holidays. Specifically, what the government does to them. For instance, today is NOT Veterans Day. But every bank and government office is closed. The feds said today, because its a friday. Heaven forbid thr holiday is inconveniently falling on a Saturday. What the hell!? I believe Armistice was 11th hour, 11th day, 11th month without any qualifiers saying its got to be a Friday. Same goes for Washington and Lincolns birthdays. When i was a kid we sometimes had midweek holidays because we celebrated the ACTUAL day they were born. How novel. Try telling your kid this year your hirthday is friday and then ignore his real birthday. Its just more bullshit from our leaders. Why bother with the pretense at all. Just make every God damn friday a holiday and skip the naming. We are headed that way anyhow. Why, for the love of god, can we not just keep the holiday on its day to honor its original purpose? Is that so difficult?

Emily had the day off. The school district celebrates Vets day on a whatever basis. She had wanted me to sty home and do things wih her. Well, its not a GD holiday. I went to work. Fortunately, most of the world is stupid and they took the day off. So my day was very slow. At least no calls in and no visitors. None. I always have alot of work to do no matter what. But, as usual, I could not tell you what I did. I can not remember anything. Except, Walker is having an ongoing argument with a surety. The surety wants incorrect financial statements prepared for a client to get his bond. And Walker likes correct financials. Unfortunately, thenonly solution required me to get involved and speak to the surety and try to calm her down. The woman is a bitch. Truly a bitch. We believe we have this solved. So I will not need to have a conversation with her again. This part of my day I remember. At the end of the day I grabbed three tax files. I managed to finish these three and bill them. The important part. Billing. This final act makes me feel the day was not a complete waste, at leastni earned some money.

Short drive home it seemed. Spoke to Marika for a few minutes, obviously I was in violation of the hands free law. She is doing well and she was having tri tip for dinner. I would have liked that too. I called Emily too and let her know what was up. Not much really.

We had a nice dinner, salad topped with the fried pork. Same as a few days back. It is very tasty. We also opened the free wine i talked about from a couple days back. Emily loved it. A nice chardonnay. I liked it but Im a red wine drinker. I believe my wife could drink it every day. She finished the bottle.

This brings us to now. We are doing dishes and putting crap away. Emily said something snarky about that because I am sitting and writing versus cleaning. To which I give a hearty “whatever”. I still get to go to bed and read.

A Little Hungover

Last evening Emily and I went out to Turkovich winery for our club member wine pickup. They provide food and tastings for all members at pickup. Food is always quite good, wine depends on your taste but I would say half of last nights were good. Anyhow, plenty rich food and 8 or so very small glasses of wine. Of course, as I mentioned yesterday, Barb and Kirk, our friends (Barb is Emily’s bestie) went with us. They have 1000 bottles in their cellar. They belong to the Turkovich cheese club. They don’t need more wine. Getting back on topic, I drank my share and ate a small plate of rich food. We went across the street later and had Mexican food. I had a large glass of Sangria.

After returning home, i managed to get all ready for bed. I was sleepy. Or drunk. Ended up, I woke up at 1230 and i was already hungover. Remember, I have not had any alcohol for the last month whileni was trying to lose the last few pounds on my diet. So, I guess what little I drank had a huge effect on me. I ended up taking a sleeping pill so i could get back to sleep. Woke up this morning and felt like crap. A pill/wine combo nasty feeling. It amazes me how easily you can forget that u need to take things easy in situations like above. But, of course, I have those two bottles of Bourbon and wine I opened yesterday to at least try. I see trouble brewing. If I try to hold it to one small glass of wine, really try, I think I will be ok. You’d think with all the pro drinkers in my family I could handle this. Obviously, you would be thinking wrong.

In spite of how I felt, I got up earlier than usual by fifteen minutes. So I easily got the dogs and cats fed, Emily fed and coffeed and lunched, before she was ready to leave. I had my breakfast (yogurt, yay) and coffee before she left. She did take extra time getting ready, its picture day. But still I moved quickly.

Once she had left I sat around for a few then decided to invite Cissie over for coffee. Of course, she is back home in Tacoma. She said she would be here in a few minutes. So then we texted for half an hour. Fills the morning well.

I had to get ready and go to work. Nothing else to do. The drive to work was amazing. I was in lane number 2 from Dixon when I merged on the freeway all the way thru Sacramento to my exit. I was never below 70 or above 80 mph. It was crazy, I never had to move around anyone or even get out of the way. Never happened before that i can remember.

I had a very slow day at work. I managed to work on several things but was unable to complete anything. Happens to often, but inam used to it. I was at work till about 6. Had to leave cuz I am in charge of picking up dinner. I get texts from a local place with whatever hot deal they have for the day. Today you got three free rolled tacos if you bring a frind. Nice. So I went there for dinner. And they gave me two orders of rolled tacos for free. Why, i dont know. I got some other food as well to fill out our dinner menu. Truly a feast.

We decided to open up the two bottles of whiskey I received from my club. We had a few tastes before dinner and for that matter with dinner and after. I added in another bottle I had just for comparison sake. Well, lines were drawn and favorites chosen. In the end, we both liked the same bourbon. Seemed obvious to me. Its fun to have stuff like that to do. Breaks up the day and makes it special. Adds something extra or different to your day.

After all the whiskey and rich food its time for bed. Yes, its only 830, but I love getting to sleep. Im tired now. And to quote my friend Cissie, you can never have too much sleep. Well, maybe u can but I slept really poorly last night. And I would like to get better sleep. As always, I have lots to do tomorrow.

No Eat

A bit of a misnomer. As many of you are aware, Wednesday’s are my weigh in day. So, first thing, out of bed, go to scale, fully naked (yes, TMI) and weigh my self. Well, I am finally in the range I want to be. I weighed in at 148.4, loss of three pounds, and am between 145 and 150. My goal. Yay. That means a couple of hundr d more calories each day. That translates to NO more nasty pancakes. Thank god.

For breakfast today I will be having yogurt with some grape nuts in it and fresh fruit on top. Can I get a resounding Amen?!!! Thank you.

With the end of the weight loss period I now need to restart my workout routine. Another piece of the puzzle to keep me charging hard into old age. I need to get as far as my dad has. His doctor says, “you’re 87, drink as much booze and eat as much rich food as you want. Smoke if you feel like. Carouse with coarse women.” So I have to get that old. Or change doctors. And, by the way, my dad does what his doctor tells him to do. Could be why he has lived so long.

So today being Wednesday I usually work from home. I have quite a few things to do today like grocery shopping and phone calls. A few bank recs. Nothing fun. I am going to call some of the yurt vendors and push that process forward. Get it to a point where I have it “built” then get Emily’s thumbs up and order it.

Speaking of Emily, I just received the first gift of Christmas. Its actually a gift for Emily and I stuck it in my closet. The second gift came today from Cissie for Em and I. Cissie pays attention. We got a teardrop trailer this summer and our gift reflects that. Very nice.

So this am, instead of being productive i sat around and chatted withh Cossie about whatever. I did not get to calling yurt makers and I did not get any real work done. Oh well. I did get to the grocery store and get that shopping done. I am not completely worthless.

When i got home from the grocery, i decided to open the two boxes i got from The Bounty Hunter. I joined a Bourbon club there a couple weeks ago. I received the two boxes shortly thereafter which I assumed were the two bottles of bourbon. Well, I opened the first box and there were two bottles of wine, a chardonnay and a cab. First thought, they screwed up. But, there was a note “our wine club is better, switch to Bounty Hunter, i will take care of you” signed by Arnaldo who set me up with the Bourbon. The wine was free. Wow. Now I gotta join their club. Which is fine, its better than either of our clubs. I have to call and thank Arnaldo. Here it is

I kept this cool free wine a secret from Emily. I wanted to share it as a surprise, like when i opened the box and fumbked through it till i found the card. I though she would enjoy it too.

I went up stairs and finished up running through several hundred emails. Mostly garbage, with a few that needed attention. That took awhile. While i wasnin that, Cissie showed up. I have to take her to the airport and she wanted to leave at 430. So, off to the airport. We got there ans she insisted on a selfie

So she is off to home. We will miss her. She will be back once she has purchased a house and has room for Trisha. She is coming back to move her home. I hope she finds a house soon. It will settle her life a little.

I got home, Emily was there. Inshowed her the wine. She had the same response i did – we should join their club. I will call tomorrow. She wants to keep the local club still and we can get rid of the other.

We left to go to a wine club event in Winters at Turkovich. We belong to the local winery club. We had hors douveres and wine there with Barb and Kirk, neighbors and friends. A good time was had by all. Kirk said he would help me put up our yurt when we are ready. Yay, help. After wine, we went to a local place for Taco Wednesday. First time Ive been there for that. It was nice, but definitely white guy Mexican food. At least I got a glass of sangria

We are now home. Emily is in bed. I am going up in a second. Its bedtime.

No Sleep

I woke up this morning about 4am. And stayed awake till 630. Joy. Daylight savings hater, that’s me. I assume this will sort itself out soon. At some point I will be too tired to stay awake. Since Marikanis here, she took Jaxon into her room instead of being in the kennel. He was up and down and in and out of our room. He rubbed his face continually on the stool next to the bed. None of these things help me sleep. And he stays far enough away I can easily smack him. Tonight, into the kennel.

This morning I made coffee for three in addition to the usual duties. I for got to finish last nights blog post so I took care of that with my dead battery phone. I very seldom forget everything but last night I did. So the post is done. Marika and I have been sitting here chatting for a few. I also have a dr appointment to. In 55 minutes. I need a shower. And maybe, for the sake of decorum, I will get dressed. Don’t want anyone to see me and be ashamed of themselves. I think you know what I mean. So off to clean up.

Marika and I have a joint appointment with the dr. We have the same one and he schedules them at the same time. Can be very convenient. So we both went at about the same time. I actually got there first and she joined in fifteen minutes later. Anyhow, we chatted with the dr for about a half hour.

When we left I took her car and she took mine. She has class. I took her car to get a new radio. Hers broke some time ago. I’m such a nice daddy. I like her new one, has apple car play and blue tooth and lots of stuff. Even a remote control. Good stuff. Actually, Kenny my audio guy, came by my office and got the car. I’ve known him over twenty years and he does take care of me.

We swapped cars. He went to his shop. I went to my lawyers office in Elk Grove. The appointment plus drive put me back at Kenny’s shop three hours later at about 310. I paid him off and went to the office. I managed to get there before 4. I finished a few things, one tax return and some calls. Not much. I left at 530. Had to be home to pick up Cissie and get Taco Tuesday. We got our haul and headed for the barn. Managed to get dogs fed and food set up by the time Emily got home. We did enjoy dinner. They finally had the Chile verde con nopales. A favorite.

After dinner I drove to almost Napa to trade cars with Marika. Remember, we swapped in the morning. I got to play with her new radio. Before her. Haha. The drive was about 45 mins with a ten minute wait for her to arrive. I had all the forgotten food and other extras she forgot when she left this am. I got to keep that stuff moving orbit piles up. Said my goodbyes and drive home, got there by 930. Not to bad a round trip. But I do need to go to bed. I have to make up for a lousy nights sleep.

Daylight Loser Time

Here we are Monday morning, and hungover. Yet, I did not drink a drop all weekend. It’s that god damn daylight savings. I woke up at the usual weekday time, 630 am. Only the clock says 530. Because we set it back an hour yesterday. So I laid awake for an hour until the new 630 came along. Not the best of ways to start the week. Last year the California legislature tried to get rid of it but the bill failed to pass. I understand that daylight savings is seriously unhealthy. But, our government knows what is best for us. Right. Maybe someday.

Had a reasonably normal morning. But, had an 11am meeting in Stockton so I had to push it to get out. Still had time for coffee with Cissie. Got to leave by 945 to be on time. I managed to get there but was still a little late. I was down there to discuss how to make increase capital so they will be able to get the premiums on a large insurance policy financed. Once thats done we can finish his income tax planning. I also had a few issues from his taxes as well as some accounting issues. Nothing tremendous.

I was out of there before one and had an unexciting drive of about 70 minutes back to my office.

The office was the usual excitement. Hell, it was the pinnacle of excitement. Really. I do remember working till 545. I finished 4 tax returns. Calls. Letters. The work never really changes or gets any more exciting.

Marika was home when I got there. She has a dr appointment tomorrow am so spent the night to make it easier. She decided on dinner, sausage with sauerkraut and fried onions. It is a good choice. And sauerkraut is a health food. Maybe it counter acts the sausage. Dinner was followed by dishes and sitting around yakking. The usual.

Being the high-lifers we are we went to bed early. It’s that damn daylight savings hangover again. It ev n aff CT’s my ability to blog.

What the Hell Day Is It?

So, today, is a little screwy. First things first, I had a really good nights sleep. Woke up at 8, which is far later than usual. That’s a good thing. But last night I had neglected to set all the clocks back for daylight savings time. So I gained an hour when I got up. The problem is, it just doesn’t feel right to get out of bed and change the clock. At least I felt weird and I still do and it’s 6pm, probably. I know it will go away but not soon enough. And, just for the record I still see no point to changing the clock. The government is screwing with my circadian rhythms for the greater good. I doubt anyone would vote for this travesty. Why hasn’t The Donald fixed this?

I do have to take the dogs to the groomer at 10. So an hour extra is more time with the big paper. Sadly, this Sunday’s paper was really a load of hog swallop. So the extra time did not do much for me. I was almost on time to the groomers at least

Our groomer, Shari, was still in bed at 5 mins to 10. See, other people have trouble with the time change. But she did a fabulous job. Of course, I had to stay and help. This is Shari’s day off and she had no help. So I am help. But I had to be there for three hours and work. No fun.

Got home and had nothing planned. So I did a little sitting around and some nothing as well. When I think back on this afternoon, it’s like looking back on a work day. I can remember what I did. Some laundry. Chatted with Cissie for awhile. Spent some time online and I can’t remember why. See, can’t remember is a theme. I did manage to get my car washed. And a little wheel dressing for all three cars. Probably should have washed the S2000 but ran out of steam. I blame daylight savings.

I spent an hour or so shopping yurts online. Since the last time I looked there were a few more yurt makers online. There is really a lot of choices now. A lot of prices. A lot of comparisons to make. Many different sizes as well. It seems damn near impossible to choose. But I will be doing it soon. I gotta have a place to live when I get to Auburn.

Took a break long enough to make dinner. Tonight’s was simple and easy. I cut up some of the leftover pork roast wrapped in bacon and fried it crispy and put that on a chopped salad. That’s dinner. Delish as always.

Now I am just sitting here. Watching TV. This day shows how daylight savings screws things up. Usually I am headed to bed after dinner. But it’s not late. So I have to stay up till it’s time. Total BS. We need a strong President to end this practice. Someone crazy who is willing to act the fool. Who would that be?

Even Emily has gotten into the act. She is sewing a poncho to use up our extra time. Actually, that’s not true. She bought the fabric last week I think she is going to make a few more. Not tonight.

So I’m back to watching lousy TV. Currently America’s Funniest Videos. Is there no end to what awful things daylight savings can cause? Oh, the humanity!

Ten minutes to nine. Close enough. Bedtime.

Slow Friday

Btw, in case anyone is interested, the Dodgers still suck today. As Clayton Kershaw said, “maybe one day I won’t fail”. Give him a thumbs up for honesty. And down for performance. He just can’t handle the post season. We can’t all be Madison Bumgarner. And he definitely is not.

Just finished the Friday newspaper. Today’s paper was a 10 minute read. Just nothing there worth a crap. Friday is one third of my weekly allotment and I can’t handle a total waste of time. Pray for Saturday, worst paper of the week. Maybe I’ll get lucky.

It’s 842 and I gotta get moving toward the door. I have two meetings today, one at 10 and one at 11. And then lunch too. Lunch is a complete waste of time. I’d rather sit at my desk doing nothing than go to lunch with clients.

Time for shower. Can’t wait longer. I will abandon Cissie who is here for coffee and reading a lousy paper. I have to be out in 20.

I did manage to get to work by 1020. Not bad considering I got in at 1130 yesterday. I needed to meet with Walker to go over several administrative issues. Also some question on billings as well.

At 11 my client Malik came in. His company is a government contractor and just pulled down a $3M contract with the US Navy. He has a “general” to run the contract using his company as a shell. Makes him a good profit with little work or worry. The general does all the work and takes on all the risk. Seems like a winning combo.

I met with Malik and the CFO for the general. They just wanted to go over what they were doing and what my part was. Whatever happens, it will work out for me.

As usual, Malik wanted to go to lunch after. There is a Pakistani place about a mile from my office. Malik appears to know everyone there and gets special treatment from the staff. He invited another client of his to join us. He owns three hotels in Sacramento and is building another one. Nice guy as anyone in hospitality is.

After lunch I had the usual work. I had a couple errands to run so I prepared payroll before I left. I went to the bank for the weekly deposit. While talking to Nina at the bank, whom I have known for years, I found out she is from Siberia. That seems so crazy. I have never met anyone from Siberia before. Seems so exotic.

I went by Grebitus Jewelers after my banking. I had to take Michaels watch in for repairs. He wears a Rolex and Grebitus is an authorized repair site. The watch was a gift from his Grandpa. Grandpa wore it for 35 years then decided to give it to his grandson Michael. The watch band broke and it needs a good cleaning. And it’s very expensive to repair so the kid sent it to dad to get it fixed. Saves him money.

I am acquainted with the fine watch salesman at Grebitus. He is a very good friend of my employee Walker. So while at Grebitus I had him show me all the new styles and share all the prices. Jesus Christ I forget how expensive nice watches can be. Especially the ones with lots of diamonds. But, they are beautiful timepieces. And Rolex watches can really hold their value and quite often increase in value. I bought mine 30 years ago and it’s worth 12 times what I paid for it. Amazing. Sadly, I can’t afford a $38K watch for my lovely bride for Christmas.

Back at the office by about 430. I finished some work. We have been plagued by a lack of toner for the printer/fax/scanner since Thursday. May sound insignificant but it grinds us to a halt when we can not print anything. So we can only get so much work done. I got a few more things done and headed out around 530.

Trip home was truly boring. But, it was also very light traffic for a Friday. That’s great for me. No trouble, no slow downs, nothing. Boring. I got to within 200 yards of home, about 635, when I realized I was supposed to stop and pick up beans and chips at the carniceria. So I turned around and headed into town to get them. Emily had called me, one of the parents in her class had brought in home made Chile relleno for us. Which does require a side of beans.

Managed to get all the way home at 655. Emily was still at yoga. I fed the dogs Got the food all set. And waited. Emily got home at 715. Cissie came over as well. We are our Mexican food and relaxed.

Cissie had come over to watch a Hallmark movie with us. She bought us a dvd last Christmas and we never got around to watching it. Tonight’s the night. Not. I put in the DVD but got no picture or sound. I beat on it for 10 minutes to no avail. So, I called Best Buy support. They sold me the system. I went through their phone tree and finally got a live person. That person decided to transfer me to a recording that said they were closed. Fuck them.

We decided to watch TV. Guess what? No signal. I call DirecTV support. Took five minutes and got some dumb ass in the Philippines. Mind you, it is lightly raining outside. No wind. This stupid cow at tech support says when it stops raining the tv will work. I told her she does not know that. She reiterated its the rain. I told her last week it was blowing 60mph and I watched tv. She said again it’s the rain. What a dumb bitch. I said a few choice words about her intelligence and ability, no swearing, and hung up. I hate all phone support.

So now no video entertainment. No big. I can go read a book. Why do I pay idiots for things and get nothing in return? Why?

Either way, it’s bedtime. I am gonna shutdown and sleep. I hope my kindle works. I don’t think I could handle more tech support today.

Dodgers Suck Today

Great news! I woke up this morning and the Dodgers had still lost the World Series yesterday! Isn’t that fantastic? He Dodgers still suck, as they do every day. My favorite team won. Which team is my favorite? The one playing the Dodgers and the SF Giants. It really warms my heart to see LA lose. They made it to the series. Sports Illustrated called them best team ever. And then they lose. I love it!! I can’t wait to hear all the excuses from their so called fans. Oh yeah, Kershaw still stinks in big games and even one of the commentators said he is no Madison Bumgarner. Good one.

I had coffee with my friend, and fellow SF Giant fan, this morning. We enjoyed talking about the Dodgers big loss last night. Again and again. It just never gets old. Cissie spends a lot of time searching the internet for insulting Dodger memes. There are some good ones out there. Lots of people hate them. I bet they hate themselves. Especially Kershaw. But he only really sucks when it counts. Lmfao. He just loves to give up runs. Anyhow, a good time was had by all. All being Cissie and me.

I took my time this morning because I had nothing much going today. I got ready and headed out and did not get to work till 1130. Oops. Tomorrow I have to be in by ten. Which sounds early but isn’t. For those of you counting I do work late, well past 5.

Work was truly a blur today. I have been cleaning up old stuff since gel last deadline. There is a lot more than I thought there was. Though today I could really see a difference in the pile. My desk is getting clean and not getting more on it. Wow. New for me. I deal in paper and I usually have a lot. On my desk. I wish it wasn’t so but it’s just part of my job. In a couple of months maybe I can be working on the new house most of the time instead of this paperwork. That would be nice. Or working on the yurt.

Anyway, I worked till 6pm and headed out. Emily should be home at 720, she said, but it’s 733 and I’m still waiting. No worries, she is busy.

When I got home I cut up some of the bacon covered pork from last nights dinner. I refried it slightly crispy. Then I made a couple individual salads to put the pork on top of. Et voila, dinner. And delicious if I must say so myself. I don’t, Emily agreed with me.

I am sitting in front of the fireplace. It has gotten quite chilly over the last few days. We have turned on the heater and cranked up the gas fireplace. Back to cold weather and coats. I have really enjoyed the summer. We have done quite a few things and gone on several trips. I need to find a few more for us before the end of the year. Accepting suggestions, but not any previously submitted.

Booking Vacation

I have things to do today. Grocery shopping, mostly lunch food, but some other things. I like to check the meat on sale, prime cuts half off, you can’t bewt the price of almost expired meat or as I like to call it “aged” meat. I am having coffee this morning with Cissie which is hardly an appointment but it is. I have to show the house this afternoon which is probably pointless. We are, it appears as of yesterday, switching agents. Which means any offer made to ex agent will not stand. So today’s appointment will be informed of this, by me. What fun. But, best of all today, I have a phone appointment with the guy I want to build the house up in Auburn. His gal said to expect the first call to be about an hour. I say his gal, she is a client and has a kitchen and bath design company up in Newcastle about 5 miles from Auburn. Just kinda worked out for us. Erin, “the gal” was a new client last year and she knows several builders here in Auburn. I am just lucky I guess.

Cissie is late. I guess across the driveway is too far to go. She’s here! Look what Cissie brought!! I am thinking it will be perfect as a welcome mat at the door of my teardrop trailer.

I weighed in this morning. I am at 151.4 lbs. a couple more to go and I can start working out. Emily believes I am too thin. But, when I move to maintenance and work out I am sure I will gain back a couple. Emily got more muscular from her yoga and I don’t say anything. Will see next week.

Just got a call from a clients lawyer up in a Reno. I never get tired of intelligent people who don’t understand taxes and tax returns. The para legal called for her boss asking for tax forms for a mutual client. The forms are not part of the final return. But the lawyer wants them. My response, give the moron a blank form. Or, write clients name on a blank form and give him that. I hate idiots.

I am sitting here ready for my noon phone call. Hurry up. I want to see whether his contractor is the man or not. I have little faith in scheduled calls. Especially with a contractor. Though he is a referral, I have no faith.

The call was late but that’s ok. I had a nice chat with George. He has his own custom home building company. We talked about many things, it was a conversation. What type of home, permits, septic, etc. It got down to he will find an architect or home designer for us. As he said, they pay attention to him since he brings lots of business. He will call on Monday with his results and we will go from there. Finally moving forward.

The day was dull after that. I managed to go grocery shopping. I only forgot two things I really need. Par for the course. Nice to get out and do something. I had a couple productive calls after that with my attorney. That’s always good. I pay by the hour for those. Sitting here now I am not sure what else I did.

At 430 I showed the house. Agent Chad is son of agent Curtis. I have known both just as long. When Chad was little he was taller than me. He is about 6’6” or 8” now. Taller than his old man and the old man is tall. Always a kick to see the little kid grown up and working. Took an hour to show the property. Nice folks but they are not buyers, at least not buyers of this property. Fun to see Chad again at least. His family has shown the property three or four times. But only prize is for selling.

Emily was home about 415 when Chad got here. She had a chance to catch up on things before she left for yoga. She should be back around 715 and I hope dinner will be ready.

So at about 545 I started dinner. We are having a pork roast covered with ground bacon which has a strong dose of maple sugar in it. Those took awhile to finish but got them into the oven by 625. The roast cooks fast when covered by the bacon. I finished off with a salad and some steamed asparagus. I am hungry.

Emily got home just after seven and he roast was done, it is fast like I said. I switched on the asparagus and we ate salads because we are both hungry. We got down to business when he asparagus was done. The pork roast was so good, both juicy and sweet. Definitely worth the extra work.

The World Series is on right now. Probably about time to watch it. Towards the end. I have been following it a little on my phone. Don’t want to jinx anything. But Emily has put it on the TV so I guess it’s time to watch. Bottom of 8th. Well, I just finished watching. The Series is over. And, fantastic news, huge, stupendous news: the LA Dodgers LOST. Thank you, God. I hate the he Dodgers. I have always hated the Dodgers. 28 years to get back here and they lose. I could not be more happy. Sports Illustrated says best team ever and they lose. I am ecstatic. I just need a few fans to berate. But I don’t mingle with that type of person. They are beneath me. What a great day. Oh yeah, congrats to the winners. The Astros. Appreciate you beat these losers. I am eternally grateful. I will sleep the sleep of the happy.

Too Many Workdays

If I were to start counting, after college and to age 65, I think there are approximately 8,800 work days for you to get through before you get to retire. Good news! I am on the downside, coasting to the bottom, under 2,000 to go. Who would have thought? Maybe I should start a countdown? Attach a digital clock with a real good battery to a bottle of Dom and put in the fridge. You would be able to see it every day. A small, very visceral goal, right in front of you to motivate you to get the hell done with this shit. Just a thought.

So, today. One big appointment in the morning in order to please a client who like most clients really doesn’t know what’s going on. I want to slap him. Unclear would be the best description I have for him. So I have to go meet with him and a couple of his managers and help them understand how life works. A meeting, makes people happy, but pure crap. We do our job. He just can’t understand it. Pointless.

The next meeting is mostly personal. I have to be an attendant for my gimp friend Bob when he goes on vacation. So I have to go on vacation, again, this year. We are thinking Kauai or Belize. I vote by price. But we are meeting to discuss this. When we go skiing, Bob gets a steep discount on lift tickets because he is disabled. Btw he looks fine but about 15 years ago he was in a head on crash and is now held together by titanium. So he is disabled. I get half price tickets cause disabled guys need an attendant. Right. He needs a babysitter more. He shouldn’t go anywhere by himself, he will get into trouble. Guaranteed.

After that, nothing but Taco Tuesday. Cissie is in town so it’s gonna be more of a par tay. Sorta.

So that’s the workday (#?) in advance. Now I can go out and screw it all up.

So all dressed and cleaned up. Went straight to Curtis Park in Sacramento. Curtis park is a neighborhood south of Broadway in Sac. I was headed to a clients restaurant. My head accountant, Walker, and I were meeting with the owner and his three managers. We were trying to get his accounting in an order he can better deal with. I personally don’t care what the financials look like so I just do what client wants. He had his own ideas of how it should be. Am hour and a half later we seem to have it all in shape.

Back to the office and I worked until Bob showed up. My second appointment. Work related, not really. He is a client. We were meeting in order to decide where to go on a quick vacay. Looks like Kauai is the call. One week for under $1000 for air and hotel. I think not to bad. We have not booked it yet but I am ready. Vacay number four in 2017!!

The balance of the day was work and phone calls. I am helping my daughter get our LLC properties ready to dump. Marika is the new manager of the LLC and she has come to the conclusion we need to shed real estate. Her choice and probably the correct one. We have just started so who knows if anything will come of it but she wants to move on to investigate the possibility. That’s why everyone voted her managing partner.

Work was unremarkable. I left there about 530 headed for home. When I finally got home at 615, Cissie was there. She wanted to stay with Emily and chat about whatever. So it was a wasted trip all the way home. I headed back out to town to get comida mexicana. I hit Lupita’s carniceria, our fave. They closed at 5pm, just for today. Cretins. I realized I could get close to what I wanted at Alhelis across town. So off to Alhelis. They at lest were open for business. Placed my order, waited a few minutes, and I was out of there.

When I returned home I served up the barrel aged cocktails I put down a week ago. It’s my first try at it. Everybody got one then I made a single cocktail of the same type for comparison. The aged cocktail did seem smoother but not necessarily better. The Rye whiskey really stood out in the non aged one and was more of the spicy rye flavor. Like I said, both were good.

We had our Mexican dinner which was different because I always go to Lupitas. Still very good, sort of like the two cocktails – different but still very good. After dinner we did the usual, sit around and yak. Emily decided to have a couple shots of Grand Marnier, one of her favorites. On a school night no less. I imagine there is no better night for it than a school night.

It is Halloween and as usual we got ZERO trick or treaters. Emily always seems to think someone will come out the seven miles and ring the bell. But, only once in the last fifteen years. We just don’t get any kids. Really doesn’t bother me at all.

It’s Tuesday so I put out the garbage and managed to forget a couple things. Emily insisted on taking them to the cans already on the curb. Not much going out anyway.

Now time for bed. Tomorrow looks less active than today. First appointment is Cissie for coffee. I can handle that in my robe. As you all know.
